How To Get Started Composting
Compost is one of nature's best mulches and you can use it instead of commercial fertilizers. Using compost impoves soil structure and aeration and increases the soil's water-holding capacity. Composted mulch contains twice the nutrients of most store bought mulch. Learning how to make and use compost gives you a more beautiful garden and the knowledge that you are helping the environment. Approximately 30% of the waste stream in the US is made up of yard and food waste. With a small investment of time you can be a part of the solution to this problem. You can simultaneously address the health of your plants and the planet. There are many resources available locally in the Bath/Brunswick area and through websites that will tell you all you need to know to get started with composting and sustainable goods and supplies.
