General Assistance

The City of Bath administers a General Assistance Program for people in need. Pursuant to Title 22 MRS-Section 4305 the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. You can view the City of Bath's General Assistance Ordinance by clicking here or in person, 3rd Floor, 55 Front Street.
 
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may call 207-443-8335, email gabath@cityofbath.com, or come in to schedule an appointment during regular business hours: Tuesday and Thursday, 9 am-3 pm. Applications are available here or during City Hall office hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am-5:00 pm.
 
If this is an emergency outside of City Hall office hours, please call the Bath Police Department at (207) 443-5563.
 
The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application.
 
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services is available to answer any questions you may have. Call their toll-free number at 1-800-442-6003.
This telephone is answered Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

NOTE: Running out of oil after hours is not considered an emergency, and deliveries will not be made after hours or on weekends or considered an emergency. Please allow at least 24 hours for delivery; same day delivery is not guaranteed following an application. Customers must watch their tanks, and make an appointment in advance and qualify for assistance before fuel will be delivered.
