General Assistance
The municipality’s General Assistance Administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application. The Department of Health and Human Services’ toll-free telephone number to call with a question regarding the General Assistance Program is (800) 442-6003. This notice is posted pursuant to Title MRSA Sections 4304-4305.
General Assistance meetings are handled through the City of Bath by appointment only.

General Assistance allows heating assistance during the months of September and May of each year. Anyone wishing to receive heating assistance through general assistance must call 443-8335 in advance and schedule an appointment with the administrator. Please note that residents must make an appointment and qualify for general assistance to receive fuel during heating season. Appointments are scheduled only during the following hours:
Tuesday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

NOTE: Running out of oil after hours is not considered an emergency, and deliveries will not be made after hours or on weekends or considered an emergency. Please allow at least 24 hours for delivery; same day delivery is not guaranteed following an application. Customers must watch their tanks, and make an appointment in advance and qualify for assistance before fuel will be delivered.
