Fees are made up of a total of the following:

Excise Tax
Registration Fee
Agent Fee
Milfoil Sticker - optional

Excise Tax - based on the length, age, and horsepower of your boat

Registration Fee - based on the horsepower of your boat

$15 - 0-10 hsp
$20 - 11-50 hsp
$26 - 51-115 hsp
$34 - 116 + hsp
PWC's $34.00

Agent Fee

$1 to register
+ $2 if it is a new registration

Milfoil Sticker - $15 that goes toward attempting to remove milfoil from lakes and ponds in Maine - Only required if you plan to take your boat in fresh water

Renewals and it was previously registered in West Bath:

Cost is Excise Tax
+ Registration Fee
+ Agent Fee
+ Milfoil - if required

Renewals and it was NOT previously registered in West Bath:

Cost is Excise Tax
+ Registration Fee
+ Agent Fee
+ Milfoil - if required
Bringing your previous registration with you or at least the registration number from the boat is very helpful

New registrations - bought at a dealership in Maine:

Cost is Excise Tax
+ Registration Fee
+ Agent Fee
+ Milfoil - if required
Bill of Sale to show whether you've paid or not paid sales tax

New registrations - bought at a dealership outside of Maine:

Cost is Excise Tax
+ Registration Fee
+ Agent Fee
+ Milfoil - if required
Bring your Bill of Sale
If you did not pay sales tax it will be assessed at 5.5% of the purchase price

New registrations - bought from a private person

Cost is Excise Tax
+ Registration Fee
+ Agent Fee
+ Milfoil - if required
Bring your bill of sale, including: VIN, Make, Model, Year
Sales tax will be assessed at 5.5% of the purchase price

Note that we are a sales agent only for Inland, Fisheries and Wildlife, and the Town of West provides this service as a courtesy. We may not be, nor are we required to be, aware of current IFW Laws. It is YOUR responsibility to know what you are purchasing and the laws of boat ownership and operation. We normally have the latest IFW publications available for you to take with you.
